NoVa CodeCamp is back hosting its first event of the year on Saturday, June 12th. The venue for this event is the Microsoft Office Facilities located at 12012 Sunset Hills Rd, Reston, VA. I’ve decided to submit a session for this year, but this time under different topic than the usual .NET or DotNetNuke development. Inspired by Steve Fabian’s last visit to the Capital DotNetNuke User Group, I have decided to present on something more flashy, more cool, more jQuery! Unlike Steve’s session though, I will not use DotNetNuke as the syndicator of the data; time permitt... [More]

On December 15th, 2009 I will be speaking at the CapArea.net User Group about the new Visual Studio 2010 IDE and the *goodness* it brings to .NET developers across the globe. I am really excited to be doing this talk, first, because I have never spoken at this User Group (which happens to be my home group), and secondly because it forces me to dig deep into Visual Studio 2010 to find some hidden gems that I hope to share with the audience. I hope you can make it there; here is the abstract: A Sneak Peek of Visual Studio 2010 and .NET Framework 4.0 Rumor has it tha... [More]

I was updating my professional profile on LinkedIn the other day, and I realized that there was a lot missing about what I do. In essence my profile contained a lot of the stuff I did for a living, but not was lacking all the work I do on volunteer basis. All the community contributions such as speaking, organizing, writing etc, was left out all together. I decided to start compiling a list of my community contribution and while I am sure I missed some things, here is what I came up with so far: Open Source Projects DotNetNuke Core Team Member DotNetNu... As I mentioned in an earlier blog post, I had a great time speaking at the RockNUG (Maryland .net User Group) this past Wednesday, October 8th, 2008. RockNUG hosts their meetings at the Montgomery College Campus, and I have to admit, it felt really weird standing in front of a full classroom while "playing professor"; If you were in school with me you'd understand where I am coming from... trust me, I paid a couple of visit to the principle's office quite a few times. If only my teachers and professors could see me now, ha! The presentation was called &qu... [More]

Tomorrow night (10/8/2008) I will have the pleasure of spending the evening with .net and DotNetNuke enthusiast alike, and am privileged to share my knowledge on the topic. I am also happy to see that the RockNUG website is powered by DotNetNuke, as are many user group websites in the DC area. Event Date: Wednesday, October 8, 2008 6:30-9:00 PM Event Location: Montgomery College, ... [More]

On January 16th at 7:00pm, I will be giving my first talk of 2008: a Best Practices for anyone who intends on upgrading their production DotNetNuke portals. Here's the skinny: Upgrading your websites can be a daunting experience whether you are using DotNetNuke or any other platform. On high volume websites you must ensure the least amount of downtime, that data loss does not occur and that you always have a way to revert back to an original state. During this event I will demonstrate best practices and recommendations that should be applied before, during and ... [More]

Once again, November 28 2007, was time for another Capital DotNetNuke User Group meeting. A good buddy of mine, Alec Whittington was supposed to help me out with this presentation since he happened to be in town, but unfortunately he had to return home earlier than expected. Alec is also a project lead for the DotNetNuke Links module and is well known and respected within the DNN community. I am sure the User Group members would have enjoyed meeting him in person. Oh well.... he'll be back! Although I literally had only an hour to prepare for this presentation, the s... [More]

Last year I founded and begun organizing the Capital DotNetNuke User Group, a group dedicated to all DNN professionals, enthusiasts and hobbyists alike. Although running a user group has not been as easy and glamorous as I originally anticipated it does give me a great sense of accomplishment especially on nights like Thursday, June 21st, 2007. Thursday night I had the pleasure (again! ;-)) to do the honors and do a presentation on building a DotNetNuke module using the DotNetNuke Visual Studio StarterKit. Attendance was great, pizza, chicken wings and drinks we... [More]
